Fresno COG Activity-Based Model
As one of the 18 MPOs in California that are subject to Senate Bill (SB) 375 for Sustainable Communities Strategies (SCS) development, Fresno COG has developed tools to address increasing interest in measuring impacts from compact and mixed-use development, transit-oriented development, active transportation, transit, pricing, managed lanes, etc. One of the tools that Fresno COG has developed is an activity-based model (ABM) to better address such issues.
An activity-based model (ABM) is a tour-based model that simulates the typical day travel of a resident by predicting where, when, and how long they spend time based on their daily activities. ABM was originally developed with the base year 2014 for Fresno COG in 2018. ABM has been used in planning purposes since 2019. However, the first RTP/SCS with the use of ABM was the third cycle (2022). In October 2024, Fresno COG completed the update of the ABM with the new base year of 2019 along with enhanced capabilities like Robust Transit Module, Managed Lanes, TNCs, Truck Restriction, and Telecommuting.
